Traditions Farm Therapeutic Riding Centre

Therapeutic riding, which includes all horse-related activities, can help to improve the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of most individuals with disabilities.  Using our specially trained horses, our clients learn practical horsemanship and riding skills.  This has been shown to help facilitate improvement in their physical and psychological development.

The techniques used at our centre have been successful in improving the lives of those with physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, cognitive disorders like Autism, or emotional trauma such as a divorce, or sexual assault.

Riders can benefit in many ways, including:

  • Improved balance, coordination and muscle tone
  • Enhanced learning, skill, and attention development
  • A sense of independence and achievement
  • Increased self-confidence, awareness, and self-esteem
  • For those with limited mobility, a sense of freedom and movement
  • Helping face personal challenges as a result of traumatic experiences
  • Enhanced well-being

Traditions Farm is the only 'Western' oriented therapeutic riding centre in Ontario.  This allows for a diversity of horse-related activities including ground work and the use of lariats and barrels for skill development and fun.

Located just 15 minutes north of Orangeville, Traditions Farm Therapeutic Riding Centre is certified by CanTRA - the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association.

I CAN

I cannot walk, or run or play

A game of tennis every day,

I cannot dance or ride a bike

I’ll never know what skating’s like.

But, I CAN follow mountain tracks

Past climbers weighted down with packs

To trace a river to its source

Above the clouds and feel the force.

Yes, I enjoy the “Sport of Kings”,

When carried high my feet take wings

To fly me on a pleasure course,

For I CAN mount and ride a horse.
